Job Description

TITLE: Teacher Assistant

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must upload a resume and one of the following:
  • College transcript showing a degree earned.
  • College transcript showing at least 48 college‑level courses completed (CCS remedial/pre‑requisite courses not counted).
  • College transcript showing at least 24 college‑level courses completed plus a Work Keys assessment with passing scores in Workplace Documents (Reading) 4+, Business Writing 3+, Applied Mathematics 4+.
  • Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.
  • Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Must obtain and maintain a CDL bus license and drive a bus when called upon.

REPORTS TO: Principal and Assigned Teacher(s)

JOB GOAL: To support the teacher in the teaching‑learning process for students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Academic Assistance

  • Give group instruction as prescribed by teacher; provide individualized instruction.
  • Demonstrate various instructional activities.
  • Check and correct students’ work while in progress; keep students on task.
  • Praise and reinforce achievement of students.
  • Report student progress to teacher.

Instructional Preparation/Support

  • Arrange classroom furnishings and equipment; prepare visual aids and duplicate materials.
  • Reorganize materials at the end of the day.
  • Serve as proctor during testing; score students’ papers as instructed; distribute and collect instructional materials.
  • Attend workshops.

Report and Records

  • Check and report attendance.
  • Enter data in health record, record student behavior and file data according to regulatory requirements.

Monitoring Student Behavior

  • Supervise students in the classroom and other locations.
  • Create and distribute awards for positive behavior.
  • Promote student self‑esteem; teach citizenship, social skills, and respect for others.
  • Reconcile minor student conflicts.
  • Participate in development of discipline and policy.
  • Disciplines misbehavior through approved methods.
  • Report discipline problems to teacher or principal.
  • Report significant change or lack of change in student behavior.

Bus Duties

  • Obtain and maintain CDL bus license.
  • Complete pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections.
  • Drive a bus when called upon while maintaining proficiency in driving skills.
  • Maintain bus route schedule.
  • Maintain discipline and report undisciplined students to school administration.
  • Discharge students only at authorized stops and transport only authorized students.
  • Comply with local and state traffic regulations and observe all mandatory safety regulations.
  • Report delays and accidents.
  • Clean the interior of the bus.

Physical Requirements

  • Must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) when requested, for purposes of driving a school bus.
  • Must communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
  • Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform basic life operational functions: kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, repetitive motion.

Special Requirements

  • Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required.
  • Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

Position Type: Full‑Time

Salary: $2,438 to $3,450 Per Month
