Job Description

NATURE OF WORK
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills and competence in basic and complex mathematical principles, equations, formulas and calculations, as well as an understanding of the application of mathematics in the solution of practical problems.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Required to hold state certification in Secondary Mathematics (license code 200) and designated as "highly qualified."

Interested in teachers with experience with Math 2, Math 3, along with other advanced maths taught in high schools.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops and administers mathematics curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.

Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.

Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for subject areas, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.

Teaches knowledge and skills in mathematics, including concepts such as real and imaginary numbers, formulas, calculations geometry, and promotes creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.

Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of mathematics to everyday existence and problem-solving.

Prepares, administers, and corrects tests, and records results.

Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual students' needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.

Maintains familiarity with district and state standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.

Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

Teaches behavioral expectations.

Develops a behavioral plan and maintains order in classroom, on playground and throughout the campus.

Counsels students when adjustments and academic problems arise.

Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

Ensures that student conduct conforms to the schools' standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Works cooperatively with colleague and in the school's learning community.

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators.

MINIMUM STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM RESPONSIBILITIES

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, calculators, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments or directions to subordinates or assistants.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, strategic plans, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, budgets, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of algebra, descriptive statistics and statistical inference.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
