Job DescriptionPOSITION: Teacher - CTE Business Education
REPORTS TO: School Principal
SALARY GRADE: State Salary Schedule plus Local Supplement
NATURE OF WORK: An employee in this class provides direct instruction to students. A wide variety of tasks are performed in the teaching‑learning process for students, the primary one being to help students learn the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible adults. A teacher performs his/her duties under the supervision of, and reports to, the principal.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Teaches District approved curriculum
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
- Plans a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students
- Assists in diagnosing the learning disabilities of students, with the assistance of district specialists
- Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
- Is available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day
Previous experience as a CTE Business teacher preferred. The business education program focuses on the nature and core concepts of business, computers, information technology, finance, and entrepreneurship. Teacher must have the ability to engage students in activities and hands‑on projects. Development of 21st century skills including collaboration, critical thinking, economic literacy, entrepreneurial skills, and problem‑solving is a part of each of the career pathways.
Opportunities to develop and apply leadership, social, civic, and business‑related skills are provided through Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Integration of the Business, Finance, and Information Technology Education program with appropriate academic concepts/courses is strongly encouraged.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals consistent with the duties of this position
- Ability to compose and write routine reports consistent with the duties of this position
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position
Language
Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
