Job Description

Role: Career Development Coordinator (CDC) works collaboratively with administrators, student services personnel, teachers, parents, business/industry, postsecondary institutions, military, community organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of career development services for students.

Purpose: The CDC supports Career and Technical Education (CTE) and coordinates career development services for students participating in CTE.

Responsibilities: The CDC:

  • Demonstrates leadership in the school, district, and community, stays current in research and best practices, advocates for the program and students, and upholds high ethical standards.
  • Promotes a respectful environment for a diverse student population by fostering positive relationships, embracing diversity, treating students as individuals, adapting services to diverse needs, and collaborating with families and significant adults.
  • Facilitates a comprehensive career development program aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, understands how professional knowledge supports student success, recognizes interconnectedness of education, and develops relevant programs.
  • Supports learning for all students by knowing how they learn, helping them develop employability and academic, career, and personal/social skills, and using effective listening and communication skills.
  • Actively reflects on practice by analyzing program impact, linking professional growth to school and program goals, and functioning effectively in a complex dynamic environment.



Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform

Essential Job Functions:

Physical Requirements:

Must use a variety of equipment and classroom tools, perform light work tasks such as standing, walking, lifting, and carrying with negligible force.

Data Conception:
Ability to compare and judge characteristics of data, people, or things.

Interpersonal Communication:
Ability to speak, signal, and convey information, receive instructions and directions from superiors.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and prepare correspondence, reports, and instructional materials in prescribed format.

Intelligence:
Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Verbal Aptitude:
Ability to record, deliver, and explain information; communicate effectively in technical or professional languages.

Numerical Aptitude:
Ability to use mathematical formulas, perform calculations, and apply principles of statistics.

Form/Spatial Aptitude:
Ability to inspect items for proper dimensions.

Motor Coordination:
Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately with office equipment.

Manual Dexterity:
Ability to handle various items, requiring minimal eye/hand/foot coordination.

Color Discrimination:
Ability to differentiate between colors and shades.

Interpersonal Temperament:
Ability to work with people under stress and in emergency situations.

Physical Communication:
Ability to talk and hear, including telephone communication.

Qualifications:

  • Current Continuing Professional License in a CTE program area or current Continuing Professional license as School Counselor at the G level.
  • Required Credentials:
    • NCDPI Facilitating Career Development Course or NC Works Training Center Facilitating Career Development Course and NC DPI New CDC Induction.
    • Six semester hours (3 hours in Counseling Theory and 3 hours of Career Development and Counseling or Career and Life Planning or Career Development Occupational Information) and NCDPI New CDC Induction.
