Full‑time Youth Services Library Assistant II
Locations- Spout Springs Library
- Gainesville Library
- East Hall Library
$33,691 annual salary. Paid vacation and sick leave, paid holidays. Participation in the Teachers Retirement System of Georgia. Optional participation in a 457(b) retirement plan. Examples of Work- Implementing programs, such as story times, STEM activities, and family fun nights, for patrons.
- Conduct reference interviews to assist in finding appropriate materials and information using electronic databases, Internet, as well as traditional print sources, and provide readers advisory service.
- Plan, prepare, promote, and deliver programs in the library and in other locations.
- Assist in collection maintenance including shelving, reading shelves, weeding, repairing materials, and dealing with damaged and missing items.
- Perform circulation activities including checking materials in and out, placing holds, collecting fines, and issuing library cards.
- Act as liaison between community groups and the library system.
- Communicate regularly with other service providers in the system and share ideas.
- Promote patron interest through creation of displays and bibliographies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Subject to work evening and weekend assignments.
Staff Development and Outreach RequirementsComplete twenty hours of continuing education a year, and work a minimum of one outreach event a year.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Ability to understand and use complex electronic catalog, circulation, and patron record computer programs as well as e‑mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and desktop publishing programs.
- Ability to understand and use reference tools in book form and online databases.
- Basic clerical skills including understanding of alphabetical and numerical order and the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
- Strong public interaction skills and ability to communicate with the public either individually or in an audience.
- Ability to make decisions within stated guidelines and work independently in a variety of situations.
- Solid commitment to customer service, protection of intellectual freedom, and privacy rights of library users.
- Physical ability to lift 10 pounds, occasionally 25 pounds, push a cart with up to 100 pounds; bend knees, stretch and lift up to 3 pounds overhead; sit in an office chair for extended periods.
- Two years of college or relevant experience.
- Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
- Preference given to candidates with library and/or supervisory experience.
Successful applicant must pass a drug test and a criminal background check. E-verifies.
