Assistant Principal
Title: Assistant Principal
Reports To: Principal
Terms of Employment: Full Time

FLSA Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt
Qualifications- Classroom teaching experience required
- Master’s degree in education administration, or related field, and considerable experience
- Eligibility for North Carolina Principal Licensure required
- School personnel as assigned by the principal
- Serve as an instructional leader and role model for students and staff by staying current on curriculum, instruction, and assessments, and by interacting with all stakeholders in a professional, ethical manner
- Enforce discipline, health, safety and general welfare standards for students and staff throughout the campus and during off campus school-sponsored events
- Monitor the entire school campus to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors
- Observe classrooms and conduct walkthroughs, pre- and post-conference observations, and evaluate staff performance
- Facilitate and attend various meetings
- Handle attendance and truancy issues by meeting with students, conducting parent calls, etc.
- Supervise students on all areas of the campus including classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, etc.
- Perform evening supervision at various events and functions such as dances, athletic events, extracurricular activities, etc.
- Assign, direct, train, review staff work, develop staff schedules, coach and/or counsel staff, and provide recommendations regarding hiring, promoting, suspending, and terminating staff
- Manage the transportation program for the school
- Assist in the implementation of student orientation, registration, and scheduling
- Assist in ensuring that the district mission statement is carried out and that the School Improvement Plan is adhered to by all stakeholders of the school
- Assist in evaluating the school program and staff, and initiate needed improvements
- Assist the principal in involving staff in setting budget priorities
- Act to upgrade own professional knowledge and skills
- Assist in the preparation and management of budgets and schedules and in the coordination and implementation of the co-curricular program
- Use and promote technological tools
- Define and disseminate information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents, students, staff and community
- Communicate and carry out established policies, delegate and accept responsibility for completion of tasks, communicate program goals, objectives, and policies to the community
- Assist in supervising and maintaining auxiliary services and use community resources to supplement the school program
- Promote and maintain open communications, promote positive student attitudes, respect dignity and worth of staff and students, and comply with established lines of authority
- Assist in completing records and reports in the supervision and inventory of necessary supplies, textbooks, equipment and materials
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
- Light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
- Ability to move around the campus to monitor and ensure the safety of students and staff.
- Understand and apply a thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, and techniques used in the administration and supervision of all facets of a school.
- Understand and apply a thorough knowledge of prescribed School Board and district policies, rules and procedures.
- Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, parents, students, and the general public.
- Prepare, read, and comprehend a variety of job-related forms, reports, spreadsheets, maps, plans, records, documentation and correspondence in all languages required by the job.
- Understand and conform to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
- Speak to individuals or groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
- Respond adequately to inquiries or complaints.
