The chair of the McKenzie-Elliott School of Nursing leads the school, and faculty and academic leaders report to them.

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke invites qualified applicants to apply for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track faculty position in the McKenzie-Elliott School of Nursing. Educational preparation and clinical expertise in family nursing, psychiatric/mental health nursing, community/public health nursing, medical-surgical nursing, and/or related areas are preferred. The faculty member may teach in the undergraduate programs during the academic year, with possible summer teaching opportunities based on program need.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality classroom, clinical, laboratory, simulation, and/or online instruction; evaluate student performance; support student progression; participate in curriculum implementation and course evaluation; and contribute to school, college, and university service. This position is primarily focused on teaching excellence, clinical education, student engagement, and service, with scholarship and professional development encouraged in alignment with non-tenure-track faculty expectations. Candidates must hold a minimum of a master’s degree in nursing, hold or be eligible for an unencumbered North Carolina RN or compact state license prior to employment, and have at least two years of clinical nursing practice experience.

A concentration in nursing education, doctoral preparation, or progress toward a doctorate is preferred; teaching experience, clinical instruction experience, and competency in online or web-enhanced instruction are preferred. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements
  • Earned master’s degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution is required. Doctoral degree (DNP, PhD, EdD, or equivalent) is preferred, earned or in progress.
  • Current or eligibility for unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in North Carolina by date of appointment.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor undergraduate and/or graduate nursing students, including clinical and/or simulation-based instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain clinical competency and meet expectations for faculty teaching in pre-licensure and/or graduate nursing programs.
  • Evidence of clinical expertise and professional practice in nursing sufficient to support teaching responsibilities.
  • Evidence of professional development and/or clinical scholarship, such as quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice, continuing education, or engagement in professional organizations.
  • Commitment to service at the program, department, college, or community level, consistent with expectations for clinical faculty appointments.
  • Ability to contribute to the mission of a comprehensive regional university serving a diverse and rural population, including a commitment to student success and community engagement.
