Title: High School ELA Teacher

Reports to: Principal

Salary: State Salary Plus Local Supplement

Qualifications: North Carolina Educator’s Licensure in the assigned area

Position Type: Full-Time

The teacher must follow all Board Policies and procedures and comply with instructions and/or directives from their supervisor(s). The teacher shall perform in a manner that meets or exceeds each of the Standards and Elements for the applicable North Carolina evaluation process.

Responsibilities
  • Arrive at school each day at the time designated by the principal, ready and prepared to complete all assigned duties.
  • Complete all assigned and/or accepted extracurricular and non‑instructional duties, such as bus duty, cafeteria supervision, playground duty, supervision of extracurricular activities (subject to written request or Board finding for licensed teachers), service on committees, and any other duties assigned by the superintendent, principal, or other supervisor(s).
  • When absent, prepare detailed plans for all classes/assigned duties during the absence, leaving them the day prior if anticipated; keep emergency lesson plans ready in a location designated by the principal.
  • Deliver instruction that ensures attainment of educational goals and objectives, preparing daily well‑prepared lesson plans for superior delivery of the curriculum program.
  • Participate in all required staff meetings and student academic meetings, including meetings for students with special needs, in a professional manner.
  • Complete and transmit all required reports and other documentation in a timely and professional manner.
  • Respond to all parent inquiries, complaints and/or concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Direct complaints regarding the work environment to the appropriate supervisor(s) and avoid confrontations with co‑workers, including actions or conversations that may result in actual disruption.
  • Manage students’ behavior to minimize disruption to the educational environment and, as necessary, refer students to the administration for disciplinary action.
  • Seek clarification whenever unsure about any requirements of this policy.
