Assistant Director of University Scholarships
Position Summary
The primary location of this position is on‑site in Cullowhee, NC. This position is designated as being exempt from the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (EHRA). The purpose of the position is to counsel prospective and current students/families on all aspects of financial aid, scholarships, and student accounts, and to participate in outreach activities to encourage timely completion of the financial aid and scholarship application processes.
This includes in‑person meetings, open houses, phone and email conversations, and other venues as required. The role serves as a primary liaison in the administration of WCU scholarships, working closely with representatives of academic colleges and/or departments in the review and selection of scholarship candidates. Additional duties may include administration and/or processing of state and external scholarship programs. The position also provides administrative backup for federal, state, and institutional financial aid, including completion of federal financial aid forms (FAFSA), verification of student financial aid applications, and awarding of financial aid on behalf of the University.
Minimum Qualifications
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employment sponsorship.
- Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree and prior experience in higher education, specifically in a scholarships or financial aid capacity.
- Experience with automated financial aid systems such as Banner.
- Highly organized, able to multitask, strong customer service background, excellent oral and written communication skills.
