Overview:
The Exceptional Children's Teacher Assistant supports students with disabilities in achieving their educational goals and fostering an inclusive learning environment. This position works closely with the Exceptional Children's Teacher and other staff to provide individualized support tailored to each student's needs.
- Behavior Intervention:
Implement and monitor individual and group behavior intervention plans under the guidance of the Behavior Specialist or School Counselor. - Student Support:
Work one-on-one or in small groups with students who exhibit challenging behaviors, providing support to help them meet their behavioral and academic goals. - Data Collection:
Collect and analyze data on student behavior to track progress, identify patterns, and make recommendations for adjustments to behavior plans. - Collaboration:
Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to develop and implement effective behavior management strategies. - Crisis Management:
Assist in managing and de-escalating crisis situations, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff. - Social-Emotional Learning:
Support and facilitate social-emotional learning activities, helping students develop coping skills, emotional regulation, and positive peer interactions. - Training and Guidance:
Provide guidance and support to teachers and staff on effective behavior management techniques and strategies. - Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of student behavior, interventions, and progress reports. - Communication:
Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, and school staff regarding behavioral progress and concerns.
- Associate degree or 48 college credit hours.
- Experience working with students with special needs and/or behavioral challenges.
- Strong understanding of behavior management techniques and positive behavior intervention strategies.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to the success and well-being of students with special needs.
- Ability to respond to the physical and emotional needs of students, including standing, sitting, and moving throughout the school.
- Full-time position based in Currituck County Schools.
- Typical school hours with occasional evening or weekend commitments for meetings or events.
