Minister for Worship and Spiritual Formation

The Minister for Worship and Spiritual Formation is responsible for worship opportunities and spiritual formation events that enhance the Life and Work of Butler Chapel. This minister will engage the university community in ministry and work that sustains a healthy worship culture and timely spiritual formation rhythms and practices needed for a thriving student experience. The scope of this minister's work will engage students, faculty, and staff in these opportunities and experiences.

This minister is part of the ministerial team responsible for the spiritual health, Christ-centered culture, and personal and communal formation programing that nurtures the spiritual and religious life of Campbell University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the worship and spiritual formation opportunities that enhance the Life and Work of Butler Chapel for the university community. Provide ministerial leadership at events and worship opportunities held in Butler Chapel. Elevate the importance of sacred spaces and resources on campus such as the Butler Chapel complex and university prayer book, Hear Our Prayer.
  • Plan and lead worship services and opportunities that follow the academic and church year. Collaborate with others in Spiritual Life, Divinity School, and Fine Arts students, faculty, and staff for large scale worship services.
  • Create, collaborate, and promote spiritual formation resources and/or events at key times in the academic and church year (e.g. first fifty, Prayer Labyrinth, Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas, Lent, Stations of the Cross, Easter, Graduation.
  • Supervise and work with the Campus Worship Director who is responsible for the weekly implementation, planning, promoting, and leading of Campus Worship.
  • Provide leadership for spiritual formation in curricular course content. This includes but is not limited to: scheduling, creating, managing, and promoting various spiritual formation and Christian practice opportunities for students enrolled in CUC 100/200, supporting the success of associated CUC courses, and leading spiritual formation days in the first-year seminars.
  • Prepare, plan, recruit, and lead an annual Mission Trip, a high impact experience, for all students.
  • Prepare, plan, recruit, and lead an annual Pilgrimage, a high impact experience, for all students.
  • Support the Dean for Spiritual Life and Campus Minister by providing pastoral care leadership for individuals and the community in times of crisis.
  • Participate in and attend key events such as Admissions days, New Student Orientation, Tartan, and/or initiatives supported by Student Life and Christian Mission.
  • Serve on university committees as appointed.
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, including but not limited to; HIPAA (if applicable), FERPA and other state and federal mandates.

Education/

Experience:

  • Master of Divinity degree or equivalent from an accredited seminary or university and ordination from an appropriate Christian tradition.
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience working in a college setting or local church primarily in worship planning and leading.
  • Experience with students or with young adults through a local church or para-church organization is also encouraged.
  • Experience and practical application related to Christian spiritual formation as applied to college students and young adults encouraged.
  • Experience with supervision of staff, event planning, pastoral care, assessment of community-based needs (spiritual formation) is encouraged.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
  • Comprehensive skills in the use of Canva.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and standard methods of digital communication, including web/text/chat platforms.
  • Proficiency in utilizing social media platforms for the purposes of ministry
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the public
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Employ fair judgment in complex, new, and/or stressful situations.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet set deadlines
  • Be Adaptable, flexible and have a willingness to work in a changing environment
  • Work occasional evening and weekend hours based on the rhythm of the academic year. Travel with students and/or staff including overnight stays when needed.
  • This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University.
