Job DescriptionPerforms difficult professional work assisting the Principal and administrators in developing and maintaining an effective educational program consistent with state and federal guidelines and the philosophy, policies and goals of the School Board. Works under the direction of the Principal and exercises departmental supervision over custodians, bus drivers, and school staff.
Essential Job Functions- Enforces discipline, health, safety, and general welfare standards for students and staff within the building.
- Observes classrooms and performs walk‑throughs; conducts pre‑ and post‑conference observations.
- Facilitates and attends various meetings.
- Handles attendance and truancy issues by meeting with students and conducting parent calls.
- Supervises hallways and lunchrooms.
- Performs evening supervision at events and functions including dances, athletic events, and extra‑curricular activities.
- Assigns, directs, trains, and reviews staff work; evaluates performance; develops schedules; coaches or counsels staff; recommends hiring, promotion, suspension, or termination.
- Manages the transportation program for the school.
- Supervises special education within the building, including curriculum development, scheduling, hiring, and supervising paraprofessionals.
- Performs additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.
Skills and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of the practices, methods, and techniques used in the administration and supervision of all facets of a school.
- Thorough knowledge of prescribed School Board and district policies, rules, and procedures.
- Effective communication of complex ideas in both oral and written formats.
- Ability to motivate others to reach their fullest potential.
- Proficiency with standard office equipment, related hardware, software, and school records software.
- Ability to learn specialized equipment and software based on district needs.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with associates, parents, students, and the general public.
- Master's degree in education administration or a related field and considerable teaching experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must hold, or be able to attain, a current valid North Carolina Professional Educator’s L License in Administration.
- Physical Requirements: Regular standing, walking, and around classroom and school; ability to communicate effectively with speech, vision, and hearing; manual dexterity for simple grasping and fine manipulations; frequent bending, squatting, reaching; lifting light weights up to 30 pounds occasionally; ability to work safely with biohazards and occasional vehicle operation.
- Data Conception: Ability to compare and judge observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics.
- Interpersonal Communication: Ability to convey information, receive instructions, and direct subordinates.
- Language Ability: Ability to read, prepare, and communicate in written and oral formats, including policies, handbooks, budgets, and public presentations.
- Intelligence: Application of logical or scientific thinking for problem definition, data collection, fact establishment, and conclusion drawing; interpretation of technical instructions.
- Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record, deliver, and explain information and give oral and written instructions effectively.
- Numerical Aptitude: Utilization of mathematical formulas, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, percentages, and basic statistics.
- Form/Spatial Aptitude: Inspection of items for proper dimensions and shape.
- Motor Coordination: Coordination of hands and eyes with office equipment.
- Manual Dexterity: Handling of office equipment, hand tools, and other items with minimal coordination demands.
- Interpersonal Temperament: Ability to manage interactions under stress and emergency situations.
- Physical Communication: Ability to talk and hear; effective telephone communication.
