Job Title: CTE Teacher

Location: Swain Middle School, Bryson City, North Carolina

Position Type: Full‑Time

Starting Date: Aug 7, 2026

Purpose

To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Management of Instructional Time – The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of each lesson, starts class quickly, and maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
  • Management of Student Behavior – The teacher establishes and enforces rules and procedures for classroom behavior, monitors behavior during all activities, and addresses misconduct promptly.
  • Instructional Presentation – The teacher introduces lessons, presents concepts clearly, provides examples and demonstrations, and ensures that assignments are understood.
  • Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance – The teacher maintains clear standards, circulates during class to check student performance, and uses oral, written, and performance products to assess progress.
  • Instructional Feedback – The teacher provides timely feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work, reinforces correct responses, and offers corrective guidance when needed.
  • Facilitating Instruction – The teacher plans lessons aligned with curricular goals, uses diagnostic data to revise objectives, and documents student performance.
  • Interacting Within the Educational Environment – The teacher treats all students fairly, and communicates effectively with students, coworkers, parents, and community members.
  • Performing Non‑Instructional Duties – The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, follows laws and policies, and engages in professional development.
Additional Job Functions

Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Training and Experience

Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
  • Physical Requirements – Ability to use classroom tools and equipment; able to exert minimal force to move objects; consistent with light work.
  • Data Conception – Ability to compare and judge characteristics of data, people, or objects.
  • Interpersonal Communication – Ability to speak, listen, and follow instructions from superiors.
  • Language Ability – Ability to read and prepare written materials in prescribed format.
  • Intelligence – Ability to apply logical and scientific thinking, interpret technical instructions, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Verbal Aptitude – Ability to record, deliver, and explain information in professional language.
  • Numerical Aptitude – Ability to use mathematical formulas, perform calculations, and apply statistical principles.
  • Form/Spatial Aptitude – Ability to inspect items for proper dimensions.
  • Motor Coordination – Ability to coordinate hand and eye movements rapidly and accurately.
  • Manual Dexterity – Ability to handle office equipment and hand tools with eye/hand coordination.
  • Color Discrimination – Ability to differentiate between colors and shades.
  • Interpersonal Temperament – Ability to handle people beyond instruction, adapt under stress, and respond to emergencies.
  • Physical Communication – Ability to talk and hear, and communicate via telephone.
