Job Description - Summary

Curriculum instructors will instruct within their area of expertise using college level measures to determine student success. Curriculum instructors will apply the tenets of critical thinking to subject matter and will demonstrate flexibility in teaching across educational mediums (seated, online, hybrid/blended modalities, information highway, etc.) as needed. Curriculum instructors will participate in academic advising, college service, and professional development activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaching
    • Conduct all class hours in a professional manner as scheduled by the course calendar.
    • Create professional syllabi that meet Faculty Syllabus Checklist requirements.
    • Develop, administer, and assess substantive assignments requiring critical thinking.
    • Meet class times punctually for the full duration of the published class time.
    • Post office hours each semester, provide copies to the Associate Dean and VP of Instruction, and meet all posted office hours.
    • Attend all mandatory divisional and college‑wide meetings and graduation ceremonies.
    • Notify the Associate Dean promptly in the event of illness.
    • Maintain alternative educational activities for student use in the event of faculty illness.
    • Support and follow college policies and procedures.
    • Assume responsibility for security, maintenance, and inventory of assigned equipment and supplies.
    • Submit accurate attendance rosters, grades, book orders, leave reports, and other documents on time.
    • Assist in textbook selection and maintain updated text information.
    • Substitute for other faculty members as assigned.
    • Participate in institutional effectiveness planning, identify expected student outcomes, and develop assessment and improvement strategies.
    • Submit assignments and artifacts for college‑wide General Education Assessment.
    • Prepare supplemental teaching activities, develop Moodle course sites, refer weak students for tutoring, consult with students, and facilitate help or review sessions outside of class.
    • Teaching load for Biology is 18 contact hours per fall and spring semesters.
    • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Academic Advising
    • Provide accurate academic advising as needed.
    • Participate in advisor in‑service training.
  • College Service
    • Participate in activities that promote college welfare, such as serving on committees, preparing accreditation reports, mentoring new and adjunct faculty.
    • Advise student organizations approved by SGA, recruit for and market instructional programs.
    • Participate in faculty governance, revise curricula, and use academic expertise for the service of the college.
  • Professional Development
    • Participate in mandatory on‑campus professional development activities.
    • Engage in professional development in a formally recognized area of expertise: attend or present at conferences, summer institutes or short courses, audit or take graduate‑level courses, and maintain membership in professional organizations.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher with 18 graduate credits in Biology or related discipline(s).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher.
  • Ability to teach General Biology and Anatomy & Physiology.
  • Completed Quality Matter Teaching Online Certificate or equivalent certification.
