YVCS is a small, independent K-8 school dedicated to fostering student independence, peace, and a lifelong love of learning. We operate on a 9-month school calendar with holidays off, offering a fun, collaborative, and deeply supportive work environment. We are looking for an assistant who will fully engage in our close-knit culture and community.

Position Overview
  • Compensation: $16-20+ per hour (depending on experience)
  • Schedule:

    Full-time or part-time options available
  • Hours:

    Flexible scheduling between 15 to 35 hours per week
  • Calendar:
    Follows a 9-month academic year (with holidays off)
  • Target Focus:
    Working primarily with Grades 4-6
  • Core Role:
    Collaborating with the Lead Teacher to support classroom peace and order
Key Responsibilities
  • Environment Maintenance:
    Assist the Lead Teacher in maintaining the Montessori 'prepared environment'.
  • Student Redirection:
    Observe students, redirect focus, and ensure a peaceful, child-centered atmosphere.
  • Daily Supervision:
    Manage and supervise daily student routines to ensure safety and structure.
  • Child Support:
    Value the uniqueness of each child while nurturing a love of learning.
  • Developmental Observation:
    Serve as a keen observer of developmentally appropriate behaviors and practices.
  • Operational Flexibility:
    Stay flexible in completing varied daily tasks to support the school's needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education:

    High school diploma required; an Associate or Bachelor's degree is highly preferred.
  • Mindset:
    Passionate about working with children, open to feedback, and eager to grow with our school.
  • Experience Pluses:
    Prior experience in managing children or working in Montessori education.
  • Specialized Skill Plus:
    Experience as a Reading Specialist is a major advantage.
