Library Director

The Fontana Regional Library System (FRL) serves Macon, Jackson, and Swain Counties in Western North Carolina, operating six libraries with an annual budget of just over $4.25 million.

• Oversee all aspects of library operations to efficiently and effectively serve the public.
• Maintain communication with the Board of Trustees and other stakeholders.
• Supervise support staff, including a Financial Officer, IT, and County Librarians.
• Prepare budgets and manage financial resources.
• Apply for state and other grants and oversee grant administration.
• Ensure compliance with library laws, regulations, and policies.
• Address potential changes in service areas, such as the anticipated separation of Jackson County on June 30, 2026, while maintaining service to Swain and Macon counties.

• North Carolina public librarian certificate or eligibility to obtain certification.
• Graduate degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program or a regionally accredited program of higher education in North Carolina.
• Strong communication and supervisory skills.
• Experience in budget preparation and financial management.
• Demonstrated administrative abilities, including grant application and management.

Salary range: $65,000 – $90,000. Salary commensurate with education and qualifying experience, with generous benefits.
