Job DescriptionPOSITION: PHYSICAL EDUCATION/HEALTH TEACHER
LOCATION: AVERY COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL
REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL
PURPOSE: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- MAJOR FUNCTION:
Management of Instructional Time The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task. - MAJOR FUNCTION:
Management of Student Behavior The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures that govern routine administrative matters; student verbal participation; talk during different types of activities; student movement; monitors behavior; stops inappropriate behavior promptly, maintains dignity. - MAJOR FUNCTION:
Instructional Presentation The teacher begins lesson with review of previous materials; introduces lesson and objectives; speaks fluently; presents using clear concepts; provides examples; assigns tasks; conducts lessons briskly; transitions smoothly; summarizes main points. - MAJOR FUNCTION:
Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance Maintains standards and due dates; circulates to check performance; uses oral and written checks; poses questions clearly. - MAJOR FUNCTION:
Instructional Feedback Provides feedback on in‑class work; prompt feedback on out‑of‑class; affirms correct responses; provides sustaining feedback after incorrect or no response. - MAJOR FUNCTION:
Facilitating Instruction Has instructional plan compatible with school goals; uses diagnostics; maintains records; aligns objectives; uses resources. - MAJOR FUNCTION:
Interacting Within the Educational Environment Treats all students fairly; interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, community. - MAJOR FUNCTION:
Performing Non‑Instructional Duties Carries out non‑instructional duties; follows policies; demonstrates professional growth.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Training and ExperienceDegree in education or related area qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job FunctionsPhysical Requirements: Ability to use equipment, push, pull, lift negligible force. Light work.
Data Conception: Ability to compare and judge features of data, people, or things.
Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak and signal to convey information; receive instructions.
Language Ability: Ability to read correspondence, prepare simple reports, use prescribed format.
Intelligence: Apply logical thinking, define problems, collect data, draw conclusions, interpret technical instructions.
Verbal Aptitude: Deliver information, explain procedures, follow instructions, technical language.
Numerical Aptitude: Use math formulas, calculations, statistics.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Inspect items for dimensions.
Motor Coordination: Coordinate hands and eyes with office equipment.
Manual Dexterity: Handle items and tools, minimal eye/hand/foot coordination.
Interpersonal Temperament: Adapt under stress, handle emergencies.
Physical Communication: Talk and hear; use telephone.
