Reports To: Principal
Supplies: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Major Function: Management of Instructional Time – The teacher prepares materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson, starts class quickly, and maintains high student time‑on‑task.
- Major Function: Management of Student Behavior – The teacher establishes rules and procedures for verbal participation, movement, and behavior, monitors behavior throughout the day, and addresses inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity.
- Major Function: Instructional Presentation – The teacher reviews prior material, introduces learning objectives, presents content clearly, uses examples, assigns tasks, asks questions, maintains brisk pacing, and summarizes key points.
- Major Function: Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance – The teacher sets clear standards, circulates to check student work, uses oral and written assessments, and addresses progress.
- Major Function: Instructional Feedback – The teacher provides feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work, affirms correct responses, and offers corrective feedback with probing or clues.
- Major Function: Facilitating Instruction – The teacher plans instruction aligned with curriculum goals, uses diagnostic data to revise objectives, keeps accurate records, and uses available resources.
- Major Function: Interacting Within the Educational Environment – The teacher treats all students fairly, interacts with students, coworkers, parents, and community.
- Major Function: Performing Non‑Instructional Duties – The teacher performs non‑instructional duties as assigned, adheres to policies, and participates in professional development.

Performs other related work as required.
- Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Physical Requirements: Light work conditions; ability to use classroom equipment and perform routine movements.
