SALARY (HOURLY): $15.60 minimum
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under limited supervision of the EC teacher and/or principal, provides support to the teacher in the instruction of eligible students with disabilities. Performs tasks to support the teacher in the teaching‑learning process for students with disabilities. Reports to the EC teacher and/or principal.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Teacher Assistant
- Academic Assistance
- Give group instruction as prescribed by the EC teacher.
- Provide individualized instruction.
- Demonstrate various instructional activities.
- Monitor work assigned by the EC.
- Check and correct students’ work while in progress.
- Keep students on task.
- Praise and reinforce achievement of students.
- Report student progress to the EC.
- Implement and collect data of IEP/BIP services under the direction of the EC teacher.
- Instructional Preparation/Support
- Arrange classroom furnishings and equipment.
- Prepare visual aids.
- Duplicate materials.
- Reorganize materials at the end of day.
- Serve as proctor during testing.
- Attend workshops.
- Score students’ papers as instructed by the EC teacher.
- Distribute and collect instructional materials.
- Daily Living/Functional Support
- Assist students with toileting and handwashing (including diaper/pull‑up and clothing changes).
- Assist students with eating while promoting independence and maintaining safety.
- Assist students with maintaining appropriate hygiene.
- Reports and Records
- Record student behavior.
- File data according to regulatory requirements.
- Assist teacher in filling out required paperwork.
- Monitoring Student Behavior
- Supervise students in the classroom and other locations.
- Distribute awards for positive behavior.
- Promote student self‑esteem.
- Teach citizenship, social skills and respect for others.
- Reconcile minor student conflicts.
- Participate in the development of discipline policy.
- Discipline misbehavior through approved methods.
- Report discipline problems to the EC teacher or principal.
- Report significant change or lack of change in student behavior to the supervisor.
- Academic Assistance
- High School diploma.
- Minimum of 48 hours of college‑level coursework; a minimum GPA of 2.0, or Work Keys Certification including Business Writing.
- Two years of experience working with children preferred, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job functions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with parents, schools, community and district office personnel.
- Must obtain a DHHS qualification letter.
- Willingness to undergo further training as required.
- Experience using the computer.
Participate in staff development workshops. Perform other related duties as assigned by the DL/I teacher and/or principal.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSPhysical Requirements: Must be physically able to lift and move objects related to the job functions; physical demand requirements are for light work.

Interpersonal Communication: Requires ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including giving instructions, assignments or directions to students.
Language Ability: Requires ability to read forms and materials; proficiency in a specific foreign language preferred.
Intelligence: Applies common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
Verbal Aptitude: Records and delivers information, explains procedures; communicates effectively in standard English.
Numerical Aptitude: Adds, subtracts, divides and multiplies.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Inspects items for proper length, width and shape.
