Salary: Hourly Rate based on the Classified Salary Schedule;
Range of $18.00 - $24.60 based on experience
Reports to: Principal & EC Case Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Schedule:
Monday – Friday
Work Hours: Full-time;
Scheduled for up to 37.5 hrs/week, but hours are dependent upon student attendance and program needs
Months per year: 10; hours dependent upon student attendance and program needs
Purpose: The one‑on‑one student support assistant will provide personal care and educational support for a student in various school‑related environments.
Responsibilities- Coordinate with teachers and EC Case manager to modify academic materials before and during lessons so that the student can access the curriculum
- Provide personal care and health‑related support in accordance with the student’s Individualized Education Program, guidance from physical/occupational therapists and healthcare plan. Responsibilities include assisting with diapering and personal hygiene, administering tube feedings as directed by the student’s medical care plan and under appropriate supervision, monitoring the student’s comfort and well‑being, and maintaining the student’s dignity, privacy, and safety at all times
- Assist the student with safe mobility and positioning throughout the school day by supporting the use of adaptive mobility equipment, including a wheelchair, gait trainer, stander, walker, and other assistive devices as needed. Facilitate safe transitions throughout the building and campus to ensure full access to instructional settings, school activities, and the educational environment
- Accurately document required care, observations, and student data as directed by the school nurse and related service providers (e.g., physical, occupational, and speech therapists)
- Reinforce special skills that have been introduced and taught by the teacher, EC teacher, and related service providers so that they may be practiced throughout the student’s school day in various classroom settings
- Provide communication assistance between the student, parent, therapists, teachers and other staff who are part of the student’s educational program
- Participate in meetings and training programs as requested by school administration as they pertain to the student
- Work collaboratively with teachers to prepare instructional materials for access as required on the student’s Individual Education Plan
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Meet all district & state requirements for employment that are endorsed for paraprofessionals
- An Associate’s Degree or equivalent is preferred
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English
- Experience working with children; special needs preferred
- Demonstrates appropriate English usage of punctuation, spelling, and grammar
- Ability to frequently stand, sit, reach, stoop, bend, kneel, squat, lift and twist
- Ability to safely push, maneuver, and guide a student who uses adaptive mobility equipment over various terrains, inclines, and within confined spaces for extended periods
- Ability to lift, move, and position students weighing up to 50 pounds independently, and heavier weights with assistance or mechanical lifts
- Willingness and ability to learn proper safe operation and use of adaptive mobility and positioning equipment
- Ability to serve as an advocate for the student’s independence and inclusion by fostering positive relationships with peers and collaborating with school staff to identify opportunities for meaningful participation in all aspects of school life
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with others
