English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Instructor (Part-Time)
The English for Speakers of Other Languages Instructor is a part-time position located primarily on the OCH and TYSON Family Center campuses in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the ESOL Director, the ESOL Instructor will provide language instruction to assist adult learners in learning and improving speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar skills necessary for successful integration into U.S. culture and transition to postsecondary education and/or employment.
This position will include in-person instruction.
- Plan and facilitate academic and life skills lessons for adults who want to learn and improve English language skills using the NC Adult Education Content Standards and CASAS Competencies
- Focus on increasing students’ speaking, listening, reading, and writing abilities
- Communicate material in a positive and appropriate learning environment
- Provide direct instruction, small group, and individualized educational activities as appropriate
- Maintain required paperwork including roster, attendance documents, and lesson plans
- Communicate with both the ESOL Director and Retention and Success Coach to support student learning and outcomes
- Adhere to all College and Title II-related policies and procedures
- One year teaching experience
- Sensitivity to students with diverse backgrounds
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work positively and cooperatively with students and peers
- Demonstrated ability to perform multi-task assignments
- Master’s degree in English, TOEFL, or related field
- Cross-cultural learning experience (including but not limited to study abroad, missionary trips, etc.)
- Experience in teaching adult learners and/or in adult basic skills
