Title:
Title 1 Teacher Assistant
An employee in this class performs any combination of classroom duties to assist teaching staff. The employee must have the ability to execute details of the work according to general, broadly based instructions, and be able to adapt to frequent and varying changes in work. The employee provides guidance and coaching to students, and requires the operation of various media and technology equipment such as computer, television, VCR, cassette player, overhead projector, laminator, copy machine and various other office equipment.
Because of the nature of the work, the employee may be exposed to human blood and body fluids, and is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood‑borne pathogens. The employee is subject to work both inside and outside, and varied work environments. Work is performed under the supervision of the classroom teacher and is evaluated through conferences and observation, and through the quality and quantity of the work performed.
Job Functions
- Discusses assigned duties with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
- Performs duties as assigned in such areas as the principal’s office, classrooms, guidance office, media center, computer labs, or other special area assignments.
- Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids.
- Supervises groups in the cafeteria, library, playground, restrooms and other areas as assigned.
- Presents subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques as directed by the teacher.
- Operates learning aids and technological equipment including computers.
- Assists others in the use of computer programs (teachers and students).
- Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts.
- Prepares, administers, grades student assignments, and assists with filing of student records and/or work.
- Assists teacher in preparation of reports and/or materials.
- Assists in conferring with parents on the progress of students.
- Assists in maintaining cleanliness and general upkeep of classroom.
- Assists other staff in the department, as requested.
- Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Training and Experience- Must be Highly Qualified.
- Must have an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in any field of study or
- Must have at least 48 semester hours of college level education or
- Must have completed the Work Keys test from a community college and have 96 contact hours in reading, writing, and math strategies.
- Knowledge of basic needs and developmental stages of children.
- Knowledge of typical behavioral patterns and issues as it deals with children.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to perform simple arithmetic.
- Ability to operate various media and technology equipment such as computer, television, VCR, cassette player, overhead projector, laminator, copy machine and various other office equipment.
- Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department heads, employees, and the general public.
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, hearing, talking, and repetitive motions. While performing the responsibility of this job the employee is regularly expected to stand and walk and sometimes has to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
