Exceptional Children Teacher
The Roger Bacon Academy is an education management organization that manages multiple award-winning public charter schools in southeastern North Carolina including Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville, located in Whiteville, NC. Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville serves students in grades K - 8. We are accepting applications for Exceptional Children Teachers.
This position is potentially eligible for an additional Teacher Supplement in addition to the base pay. Our Teachers are paid based on the North Carolina State Salary Scale for Bachelor's Degrees.
Our researched-based Direct Instruction curriculum begins with reading by phonics and writing with attention to penmanship, spelling, grammar, and style. Mathematics, science, music, and art also receive emphasis in the basics with examples and techniques from time-honored classical sources. The children gain a solid base of knowledge well-grounded in the intellectual, aesthetic, and moral traditions of western civilization.

Exceptional Children Teacher – Job Responsibilities
Purpose:
The Exceptional Children Teacher provides special education services to students identified as having a disability in accordance with state and federal regulations. Work involves developing and implementing the Individual Education Plan in classroom settings that are compatible with the student's age and developmental level. The EC teacher is responsible for developing lesson plans, adapting materials and designing activities to assist EC students to develop appropriate academic, behavioral, and social skills, as well as meeting their IEP goals.
The teacher is responsible for monitoring student's progress and for maintaining EC records in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement instructional plans that is compatible with the school-wide curricular goals and the students' Individual Education Plan.
- Is responsible for the development of Individual Education Plan (IEP) for students with disabilities; implements the IEP; and uses diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update IEP's as needed.
- Provides direct special education instruction to identified students.
- Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs. Implementation of these methods may require the adaption or development of materials.
- Monitors student behavior; maintains discipline in the classroom; deescalates inappropriate behaviors; teaches students appropriate behavioral strategies; if certified, restrain students when necessary; records and reports restrains.
- Assists disabled students with their personal and self-help needs, such as eating, toileting, and other essential tasks that the students are not able to perform by themselves
