Job Description

Riverside Middle School has an opening for a Science Teacher for the upcoming school year. The teacher will be responsible for ensuring all students learn the essential skills at each grade level.

Grade: State Salary Scale for Teachers

FLSA: Exempt

Reports to: Principal

Supervises: Teacher Assistant(s), if applicable

Terms of Employment: 10 Months

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an approved teacher education program in the subject area
  • North Carolina Professional Educator's License in area of assignment
  • If not licensed, but have a Bachelor's in a related area, apply for alternative licensure (see links)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Monitor student safety and well‑being, especially during inclusive activities
  • Motivate students and maintain classroom order and discipline
  • Maintain a clean, orderly environment
  • Perform general clerical duties, operating office equipment and maintaining files
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Establish effective working relationships
  • Use a wide variety of classroom technology
  • Create and follow rigorous lesson plans that align with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instructional Process
    • Plan and implement a program of instruction that adheres to district goals and the NC Standard Course of Study
    • Develop purposeful lesson plans maximizing time on task
    • Design a program of study that meets individual student needs
    • Encourage student enthusiasm and study habits
    • Provide progress reports as required
    • Prepare a substitute teacher folder
    • Plan assignments for teacher assistants, tutors, and volunteers
    • Identify learning problems and make referrals
    • Demonstrate strong subject matter knowledge
    • Use effective oral and written expression
  • Curriculum Development
    • Stay current on subject knowledge and learning theory; share with colleagues
    • Assist in curriculum revision, including written courses of study
    • Acquaint with supplemental services for students
  • Classroom Management
    • Develop and enforce classroom rules and management techniques
    • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
    • Share responsibility for student supervision throughout the school
    • Supervise assigned students when brief absence from assignment
  • Public Relations
    • Uphold school policies and rules; support them publicly
    • Maintain punctual attendance and proper use of planning time
    • Communicate positively about the school program
    • Collaborate with parents to strengthen education
    • Maintain relationships with staff members
  • Professional Growth
    • Attend workshops, seminars, conferences, and pursue advanced coursework
    • Maintain membership in professional organizations
    • Collaborate in planning in‑service training
    • Attend staff, department, and committee meetings
  • Student Evaluation
    • Evaluate student accomplishments using multiple assessment methods
    • Adjust instructional program as required
    • Respect confidentiality of records and information about students, parents, and teachers
Physical and Cognitive Requirements
  • Light physical work; lift up to 20 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to sit, talk, hear; walk and use fingers

  • Compare and judge observable data and characteristics

Work Environment

The teacher works indoors with minimal noise in a school setting.

Salary

$4,100 to $7,079 per month
