Role Description

The HCECHS Teacher Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Ahoskie, NC, supporting teachers and students at Hertford County Early College High School. This role includes assisting with classroom instruction, preparing learning materials, reinforcing lesson content, and supporting small-group and individual student activities. The Teacher Assistant helps maintain an orderly, safe learning environment, supervises students during transitions and non-instructional times, and supports the implementation of instructional strategies in core subjects, including mathematics and other academic areas.

The role also involves collaborating with teachers and staff, monitoring student progress, and providing encouragement and guidance to help students meet academic and behavioral expectations. The Teacher Assistant is expected to model professionalism, follow school policies, and contribute to a positive school culture.

Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess strong Assistant Teaching and Education skills to support classroom instruction and student learning.
  • Candidates should possess effective Communication skills for interacting with students, families, and school staff.
  • Candidates should possess foundational Mathematics skills to assist with math-related instruction and student work.
  • Candidates should possess experience and comfort Working With Children in educational or youth-focused settings.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a high school diploma or equivalent (postsecondary coursework or associate degree in education is preferred).
  • Ability to follow teacher direction, work collaboratively, and maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Strong organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a classroom environment.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting diverse learners, including students with varied academic and social-emotional needs.
