Reports to:
Principal. Supervises:
May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
Purpose:
To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Major Functions:
- Management of Instructional Time – Prepare materials, supplies, and equipment at lesson start; get class started quickly; keep students on task; maintain high student time‑on‑task.
- Management of Student Behavior – Establish rules & procedures for routine matters, verbal participation, movement, monitoring behavior, intervening appropriately.
- Instructional Presentation – Review prior materials; introduce lesson and objectives; speak fluently; present concepts clearly; use examples, demonstrations, and tasks; ask appropriate questions; pace instruction appropriately; transition smoothly; summarize key points.
- Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance – Maintain firm standards and due dates; circulate during class to check performance; use oral, written, and other work products to assess progress; pose clear questions.
- Instructional Feedback – Provide feedback to encourage growth; give prompt feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work; affirm correct responses; probe or give clues after incorrect or no response.
- Facilitating Instruction – Prepare instructional plans aligned with school and system goals; use diagnostic information to revise objectives; maintain accurate records; align objectives, strategies, assessment, and resources.
- Interacting Within the Educational Environment – Treat all students fairly; interact effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
- Performing Non‑Instructional Duties – Carry out non‑instructional duties as assigned; adhere to laws, policies, rules, and regulations; pursue professional development and demonstrate growth.
Additional Functions:
Perform other related work as required.
Degree in education or a related field that qualifies for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job FunctionsPhysical Requirements:
Light work. Must be able to use a variety of equipment and tools, lift, carry, push, pull, move objects, stand, walk.

Ability to read & prepare correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, instructional materials.

Numerical Aptitude:
Use mathematical formulas, add/subtract/multiply/divide, decimals and percentages, apply statistics.
Form/Spatial Aptitude:
Inspect items for proper dimensions.
Motor Coordination:
Coordinate hands & eyes with office equipment.
Manual Dexterity:
Handle items, use tools; basic eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination:
Differentiate colors and shades.
Interpersonal Temperament:
Deal with people beyond giving instructions; adapt under stress and emergencies.
Physical Communication:
Talk and hear; communicate via telephone.
