Assistant Principal, Academy at Middle Fork (Winston-Salem, NC)

Responsible for school-wide leadership, promoting student development, and ensuring effective operation of the campus. The role includes maintaining a safe, positive learning environment through restorative practices.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or Graduate Certificate in School Administration
  • At least 3 years of successful teaching experience
  • NC License in School Administration
  • Experience with or understanding of restorative justice practices in a school setting

Job Responsibilities & Duties
  • Culture & Climate
    • Be deeply committed to the success of each mini-Mountaineer
    • Support and promote the school’s vision, mission, and culture
    • Model positive and restorative interactions with students, families, and staff
    • Work collaboratively with the Principal and Director of Culture & Climate to maintain a positive learning environment for all students
    • Maintain high visibility throughout the school
    • Actively engage with colleagues, school administration, the local community, and university partners to cultivate a collaborative school environment
  • Chief of Students
    • Update and reinforce the student handbook
    • Serve as the point person for escalated behaviors and as the primary contact for discipline issues
    • Reinforce and model the effective use of the school-wide behavior matrix and Student Code of Conduct
    • Model and support restorative practices to ensure fair opportunities for all students and provide coaching and support for teachers to implement restorative practices in the classroom
    • Maintain accurate documentation and records of incidents and assigned consequences
    • Follow due process procedures when handling discipline issues
  • Student Support Services
    • Supervise the school’s Counselor, Nurse, and Behavioral Support Interventionist
    • Coordinate with external partners to provide contracted student support services
    • Lead weekly CARE Team meetings for student support and interventions
    • Work collaboratively with the school staff and the data manager to analyze and monitor student attendance data. Identify trends and strategize solutions to promote excellent attendance. Conduct student attendance meetings.
  • Instructional Leadership
    • Assist the Principal in conducting annual evaluations of staff
    • Plan, coordinate, and serve as the school administrator for Enrichment Day
    • Serve as the lead administrator in the event of the Principal’s absence
    • Assist in supporting the instructional framework of the Academy
    • Serve as an administrative representative for IEP meetings
  • Operations
    • Adhere to and enforce lab school policies and procedures
    • Develop and monitor supervision schedules
    • Supervise arrival, lunch, recess, dismissal, and breaks, ensuring a strong and productive school culture at these times
    • Be responsible for the school’s facilities by managing and approving work orders, communicating with custodial staff, and ensuring the building is kept clean and in good condition
    • Ensure proper adherence to the lease agreement with WS/ FCS
    • Coordinate and manage substitute teacher coverage for the school
  • Transportation
    • Oversee the daily operation of student transportation, including bus routes, arrival and dismissal procedures, and parent transportation concerns.
    • Serve as the primary school contact for transportation-related issues, working collaboratively with district transportation staff, families, and school personnel.
    • Monitor transportation data, address concerns proactively, and implement procedures that promote student safety, efficiency, and positive communication.
    • Coordinate transportation needs for field trips, special events, and other school activities as appropriate.
