The Franklin County Library is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Youth Services Librarian to transform our Louisburg branch into a vibrant hub of imagination, community connection, and early literacy excellence. Compensation

Estimated Hiring Salary Range: $53,856‑$56,549. To be determined based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

An employee in this class is responsible for providing professional librarian services to patrons of the library with a focus on youth (ages 0‑17). This employee serves youth by providing reference and readers’ advisory assistance, developing collections and services, and managing and designing the youth library experience. Work includes coordination and implementation of programs, advising and assisting in activities and special events, and organizing and filing program materials and records.

The employee actively serves as a member of the Library Management Team. Work is performed under general supervision of the Library Director and is reviewed through daily observation and conferences and is evaluated based on meeting established goals.

  • Works daily with the general public by providing customer service, reference and reader’s advisory with a focus on youth library users.
  • Maintains and builds young adult and children’s collections.
  • Creates appropriate displays and other related materials, such as reading lists, to promote the youth collections.
  • Develops programs and services, delivering programs when needed, for children and young adults including but not limited to Story times, as well as school‑age and teen programming. This includes planning and promotion and creating related promotional materials.
  • Coordinates and implements branch programs in concert with branch supervisors. Trains staff on youth program and service delivery.
  • Provides instruction and assistance to library patrons of all ages in the use of the computer catalog, Internet, and other library technology and equipment.
  • Serves as a leader and point of contact in the absence of library administration.
  • Works with library partners to generate publicity for library events and initiatives.
  • Serves as liaison to elementary, middle, and high schools, and visits schools for events and promotion as needed. In collaboration with the Outreach Coordinator serves as liaison to day‑cares and area preschools.
  • Creates electronic finding aids for youth resources and collections.
  • Maintains an awareness of professional trends by attending regular professional development and reviewing library professional journals and websites.
