Reports To: Principal
Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Duties and Responsibilities- Major Function – Management of Instructional Time: The teacher prepares materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson, starts the class quickly, and maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
- Major Function – Management of Student Behavior: The teacher establishes rules and procedures for routine administrative matters, verbal participation, movement, and monitors behavior consistently, addressing inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity.
- Major Function – Instructional Presentation: The teacher reviews previous material, introduces objectives, speaks clearly, presents concepts, provides examples, assigns tasks, asks appropriate questions, manages pace, makes efficient transitions, ensures assignments are clear, and summarizes key points at the end.
- Major Function – Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: The teacher sets clear work standards, circulates during class to check performance, uses oral, written, and other work products for assessment, and questions clearly one at a time.
- Major Function – Instructional Feedback: The teacher provides feedback on in‑class work, encourages growth, gives timely feedback on out‑of‑class assignments, affirms correct oral responses, and probes or provides clues for incorrect or no responses.
- Major Function – Facilitating Instruction: The teacher has a plan aligned with school objectives, employs diagnostic information, records student performance, matches objectives with strategies and assessment, and uses available resources to support instruction.
- Major Function – Interacting within the Educational Environment: The teacher treats all students fairly, and engages effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community.
- Major Function – Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: The teacher performs non‑instructional duties as assigned, follows laws and policies, and demonstrates professional development growth.

Degree in education or a related area that will qualify for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards- Physical Requirements: Must be able to use classroom tools, lift, carry, push, pull objects, and perform light work. Must be able to stand and walk regularly.
- Data Conception: Ability to compare and judge functional characteristics of data, people, or objects.
- Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak, receive instructions, and convey information.
- Language Ability: Ability to read and prepare correspondence, reports, and instructional materials.
- Intelligence: Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking, interpret instructions, and draw conclusions.
- Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Numerical Aptitude: Ability to use basic arithmetic, decimals, percentages, and apply statistical principles.
- Form/Spatial Aptitude: Ability to inspect items for proper dimensions.
- Motor Coordination: Ability to coordinate hands and eyes when using office equipment.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle various items and tools.
- Color Discrimination: Ability to differentiate colors and shades.
- Interpersonal Temperament: Ability to cope with stress and emergency situations.
- Physical Communication: Ability to talk and hear, including telephone communication.
- Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well‑being of students, especially in inclusive activities.
