Job DescriptionUnder general supervision, performs a variety of technical and clerical tasks to assist a teacher. Supports the lead teacher in student instruction, classroom management, and administration.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities- Assists teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness.
- Constantly monitors student safety and well-being, encouraging self-esteem and independence.
- Monitors student behavior and helps maintain discipline.
- Provides one-on-one academic support and leads small group activities as needed.
- Maintains standardized records and documentation of student progress.
- Performs general housekeeping, repairs, and maintenance of classroom equipment.
- Manages clerical duties: incident reports, grading, attendance, copymaking, classroom displays, audiovisual equipment, supply orders, and file maintenance.
- Participates in staff‑development workshops and other related work.
Performs any other duties as required by the immediate supervisor.
Minimum QualificationsPhysical Requirements: Ability to use and move classroom equipment; light work. Willingness to assist with student toileting and changing.
Communication: Ability to speak and/or signal, receive instructions.
Language Ability: Read and prepare correspondence, reports, and instructional materials.
Interpersonal Temperament: Adaptable under stress, able to work with diverse individuals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- General knowledge of teacher’s activities, classroom routines, and student handbook rules.
- Knowledge of emergency procedures and principles of organization and administration.
- Knowledge of the curriculum for the grade.
- Continuous monitoring of student safety and well-being in inclusive settings.
- Ability to motivate students and maintain a clean, orderly environment.
- Clerical ability, basic file keeping, and use of office machines.
- Follow oral and written instructions; establish effective working relationships.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Preferred:
Associate Degree in birth-through kindergarten, child development, early childhood education, or related field. Alternately, valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
