General Statement of Job: Under general supervision, provides special education services to students identified as disabled in accordance with state and federal regulations. The EC teacher develops lesson plans, adapts materials, and designs activities to help students develop academic, behavioral, and social skills and meet IEP goals. Responsible for monitoring progress and maintaining records. Reports to principal.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and implement instructional plans compatible with school and system-wide curricular goals and students’ IEPs.
- Develop Individual Education Programs, implement IEPs, and use diagnostic information to update IEPs.
- Provide direct special education instruction to identified students.
- Employ varied teaching methods, adapting materials as needed.
- Monitor student behavior, maintain discipline, deescalate inappropriate behaviors, teach strategies, restrain when necessary, and record and report restraints.
- Assist students with personal and self‑help needs, such as eating, toileting, and other essential tasks.
- Communicate with parents via periodic written progress reports.
- Act as case coordinator, consult with community caregivers, school support professionals, and parents.
- Maintain student records in accordance with North Carolina’s Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities and state/federal statutes.
- Treat students fairly, interact effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
- Follow a professional development plan and demonstrate evidence of growth.
Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Training and ExperienceDegree in special education and certification in at least one disability area by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required- Physical: able to use various equipment, stand, walk; classified as Light Work.
- Data Conception: compare and judge characteristics of data, people or things.
- Interpersonal Communication: speak/signal, receive instructions.
- Language Ability: read, prepare correspondence, reports, and forms.
- Intelligence, Verbal Aptitude, Numerical Aptitude, Form/Spatial Aptitude, Motor Coordination, Manual Dexterity, Color Discrimination, Interpersonal Temperament, Physical Communication: apply respective technical or professional skills as required.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
