Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, Cooperative Extension field faculty deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens. Our mission is to partner with communities to deliver education and technology that enrich the lives, land and economy of North Carolinians.

Duties and Responsibilities
N.C. Cooperative Extension in Columbus County is seeking to hire a Livestock Extension Agent. The agent in this position will provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of an effective educational program and informational assistance to meet the needs of the county youth and adult populations in the following area of responsibility – Livestock, to include but not limited to swine, cattle, goats, sheep, as well as forages and pasture management.
A successful candidate must demonstrate the ability and enthusiasm for serving audiences. The person selected for this position will be responsible for educational programming and informational assistance related to all phases of livestock production and management. The agent will be responsible for providing leadership in planning, implementing, evaluating and marketing educational programs and activities with measurable impacts in livestock production/management and forage/pasture management.
Additionally, the person selected for this position will be expected to work closely with the 4-H Agent to provide leadership in planning, implementing, evaluating and marketing a youth livestock program. This position demands a responsible and self-motivated individual with outstanding relationship skills and a strong background in livestock production and 4-H livestock programming. Frequent travel within the county and occasional travel outside the county is required.
Other Work/Responsibilities
The candidate must be able to develop innovative strategies for presenting educational programs to livestock producers, youth and farm families, and related organizations and businesses.
Recruitment Details
Anticipated Hiring Range
- Minimum Bachelor's $40,000;
Minimum Master's $45,000;
Minimum Doctorate $50,000 Commensurate with experience.
