Job Description

Must hold or be eligible to hold a valid NC License in Special

Education:

General Curriculum (88091) or Cross Categorical (88001). This position will remain posted until filled.

Reports to:

Principal

Supersedes:
May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.

Purpose:

To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Management of Instructional Time:
    The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready before the lesson, starts class quickly, and maintains high student time‑on‑task.
  • Management of Student Behavior:
    The teacher has established rules, monitors behavior, stops inappropriate behavior promptly, and maintains student dignity.
  • Instructional Presentation:
    The teacher reviews previous material, introduces objectives, presents content clearly, conducts lessons briskly, manages transitions, and summarizes main points.
  • Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance:
    Maintains standards, circulates to check performance, uses oral and written checks, poses questions clearly.
  • Instructional Feedback:
    Provides feedback on correctness, encourages growth, gives prompt graded feedback, probes or repeats for incorrect responses.
  • Facilitating Instruction:
    Has an instructional plan aligned with curricular goals, uses assessment data, keeps accurate records, uses resources for program support.
  • Interacting Within the Educational Environment:
    Treats students fairly, interacts with students, coworkers, parents, and community.
  • Performing Non‑Instructional Duties:
    Carries out non‑instructional duties, follows laws and policies, demonstrates professional growth.

Minimum Training and Experience

Degree in education or related area qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to use various classroom tools, lift, stand, walk—light work.
