CTE Career Development Coordinator

Purpose:

The Career Development Coordinator (CDC) works collaboratively with administrators, student services personnel, teachers, parents, business/industry, post‑secondary institutions, military, community organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of career development services for students. The CDC responsibilities incorporate the North Carolina Essential Standards, National Career Development Guidelines, and the National Model for School Counseling Programs and Future‑Ready Students for the 21st Century.

• Qualifying for a (747) license requires a bachelor’s degree and current educator license in a Career and Technical Education program area or a master’s degree in school counseling and a current license in school counseling.
• One or more of the following:
  • One year of industry‑related career development work experience in business, industry, or labor within the past five years.
  • One year as a coordinator of work‑based learning (job‑shadowing, internships, cooperative education, apprenticeships) in a Career and Technical Education program area within the past five years.
  • One year as a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) adviser within the past five years.
  • One year of work experience in school counseling.
• Completion of the NC DPI sponsored Facilitating Career Development, or 6 semester hours as defined in CTED‑004.
• Completion of 10‑hour Induction for new CDCs sponsored by NCDPI.

  • Serve as building‑level CTE Test Coordinator.

• Understands and facilitates the implementation of a comprehensive career development program:
  • Align programs to support student success in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
  • Understand how professional knowledge and skills support and enhance student success.
  • Recognize the interconnectedness of the comprehensive education program and academic content areas/disciplines.
  • Develop comprehensive career development programs relevant to students.
  • Collaborate and facilitate the Systematic Framework for Career Development:
    Career Continuum.
• Promotes learning for all students:
  • Know how students learn and understand the teaching and learning process and its impact.
  • Help students develop employability skills and assist all students with developing academic, career, and personal/social skills.
  • Use and promote effective listening and communication skills.
  • Identify CTE Concentrators and promote concentrators and completers opportunities.
• Actively reflects on their practice:
  • Analyze the impact of the career development program.
  • Link professional growth to the needs of their district, school(s), and their program goals.
  • Function effectively in a complex, dynamic environment.

• At least 1 year of relevant experience.
• Bachelor degree preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
