Job DescriptionReports To: Principal
Supersedes: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Duties and Responsibilities- Management of Instructional Time: Teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of each lesson; gets class started quickly; keeps students on task; maintains high level of student time‑on‑task.
- Management of Student Behavior: Teacher has established rules and procedures for verbal participation, movement, and routine administrative matters; monitors behavior; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining the dignity of the student.
- Instructional Presentation: Begins lesson with review; introduces objectives; speaks fluently; presents concepts; provides examples; assigns tasks with high success rate; asks appropriate level questions; conducts lesson briskly; makes transitions; summarizes main points.
- Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: Maintains firm work standards; circulates during class to check performance; uses oral & written checks; poses clear questions.
- Instructional Feedback: Provides feedback on correctness, encourages growth; gives prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work; affirms correct responses; probes after incorrect responses.
- Facilitating Instruction: Holds instructional plan aligned with curricular goals; uses diagnostic information; keeps accurate records; aligns objectives, strategies, assessment, and student needs; uses available resources.
- Interacting Within the Educational Environment: Treats all students fairly; interacts with students, coworkers, parents, and community.
- Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: Carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned; adheres to laws, policies, rules, and regulations; follows professional development plan; demonstrates growth.

Degree in education or related area that qualifies for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum QualificationsPhysical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools; exert negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull; consistent with Light Work.
Data Conception: Ability to analyze functional characteristics of data.
Interpersonal Communication: Ability to convey information; receive instructions.
Language Ability: Ability to read and prepare correspondence, reports, forms.

Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record, deliver information, explain procedures.
Numerical Aptitude: Ability to use mathematical formulas, basic operations, descriptive statistics.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Ability to inspect items for proper dimensions.
Motor Coordination: Coordinate hands and eyes.
Manual Dexterity: Handle items, tools, equipment.
Color Discrimination: Differentiate colors and shades.
Interpersonal Temperament: Deal with people beyond instructions; adaptable under stress.
Physical Communication: Talk and hear; communicate via phone.
