Exceptional Children's OCS Teacher
Location:
South Granville High School, Creedmoor, North Carolina within Granville County Schools.
Under general supervision, provides special education services to students identified as disabled in accordance with state and federal regulations. The teacher develops and implements Individual Education Programs (IEP) and lesson plans, adapts materials, and designs activities to support students in academic, behavioral, and social skill development in a classroom setting appropriate to their developmental level.
Key Responsibilities- Develops and implements instructional plans aligned with school‑wide curricular goals and the students’ IEP.
- Manages the creation, implementation, and updating of Individual Education Programs using diagnostic information.
- Provides direct special education instruction to identified students.
- Utilizes a variety of teaching methods and adapts materials as needed.
- Monitors and addresses student behavior, maintains discipline, deescalates inappropriate behaviors, and records restraints when necessary.
- Assists students with personal and self‑help needs such as eating and toileting.
- Communicates with parents through periodic written progress reports.
- Acts as case coordinator, consulting with caregivers, support staff, and parents.
- Maintains student records in compliance with North Carolina Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities and with federal statutes.
- Interacts fairly and effectively with students, coworkers, parents, and community.
- Follows a professional development plan and demonstrates growth.
- Use of classroom equipment (computers, copiers, calculators).
- Light work tasks: standing, walking, moving objects.
- Ability to test, coordinate, and handle materials for students with special needs.
- Sound and visual communication, including telephone use.
- Degree in special education.
- North Carolina Department of Public Instruction certification in at least one area of disability.
- Proficient in developing and implementing IEPs and instructional plans.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Full‑time position. Salary range $4,100 to $7,079 per month.
