North Carolina Career Coach

The North Carolina Career Coach is a grant-funded, 11-month position that supports high school students in Duplin County with career exploration, career planning, college readiness, and workforce preparation. The Career Coach helps students identify career interests, develop individualized career plans, and explore postsecondary education, training, and employment opportunities.

The NC Career Coach coordinates career-focused events, including job fairs, college fairs, financial aid workshops, employer presentations, and campus visits. The position collaborates with high school administrators, Career and Technical Education(CTE) coordinators, counselors, teachers, employers, and community partners to provide career, college, and workforce development services.

The NC Career Coach maintains accurate records, prepares required reports, and ensures compliance with grant requirements. This position reports to the Director of High School Programs.

  • Assist in the organization of career development and exploration events to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to make career-aligned educational decisions.
  • Maintains current knowledge of information related to high school, community colleges, universities, and military pathways policies and procedures as well as information related to community workforce development resources to provide students with timely information and guidance to assist students in making informed decisions.
  • Develops professional relationships with business and industry leaders to remain knowledgeable about the careers available for graduates entering the workforce.
  • Coordinates with local business leaders to offer high school learners opportunities to learn about career availability in the service area and coordinates tours with local industries to expose students to various career pathways.
  • Develop rapport and trust with students to support successful goal completion.
  • Advise students in academic, career, and successful goal-setting via scheduled and walk-in appointments.
  • Assist students and school officials to problem-solve issues that arise which impact academic goals, persistence, and attendance.
  • Collect, compile, analyze, and document records and reports.
  • Monitor student assessment scores, grades, and attendance while maintaining advising logs to track contact hours, issues, and outcomes of advising sessions.
  • Provide training sessions to students in career planning, secondary/postsecondary educational information, and financial aid availability.
  • Acquire computer/technology competencies as appropriate to position.
  • Maintain security of personal computer access.
  • Perform other professional or job-related duties as assigned.
  • Serve on college committees as directed by supervisor.
Qualifications:

Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities

The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily. Ability to guide students through career exploration, academic advising, and postsecondary planning. Familiarity with educational pathways and training programs. Strong verbal and written communication. Ability to build rapport and establish trust with students. Strong relationship-building capabilities to work effectively with students, school faculty, and community partners.

Maintain professionalism and exercise good judgment in sensitive situations. Education/

Skills Required:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Knowledge of the college admissions process, including financial aid information. Understanding of community agencies and career options, including internship opportunities. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administrators. Perform tasks independently. Preferred:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field. Bilingual. Experience

Required:

Some recent experience working with high school students, industry-related career development, academic counseling, career awareness, or college admissions process. Preferred:
