Part-Time Instructional Assistant
Performs any combination of the following duties in the classroom to assist the teaching staff.
Required education, training, and experience:
- Must meet Paraprofessional Requirements:
Two-year degree or 48 college semester hours. - Evidence of good written and spoken communication skills.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
- Ability to write simple correspondence
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Discusses assigned duties with the classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts
- Supervises groups to cafeteria, library, playground, and other areas as assigned
- Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids.
- Operates learning aids and technological equipment
- Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
- Assists teacher in preparation of reports and/or materials
- Assists in conferring with parents on the progress of students
- Other duties as assigned by the principal
Physical environment:
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, etc.
- Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Work environment:
- Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations. There may be changing priorities and interruptions during the workday.
- Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of people or things.
- Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments, or directions to students.
- Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, policies, etc. using prescribed formats.
- Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.
- Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions.
