Electrical Lineworker Instructor

The Electrical Lineworker Instructor is responsible for planning, developing, and teaching electrical lineworker classroom and hands-on field training. This includes ensuring instruction aligns with industry standards, safety regulations, college policy and procedure, and the operational needs of the program.

Instructional hours to be coordinated based on program needs and selected instructors scheduling availability. Position will be up to 22 hours per week. This position will remain open until filled.

Essential

Job Duties
  • Teach all assigned courses for the full duration of scheduled instruction.
  • Plan and deliver comprehensive training in line construction, maintenance and operations, including energized and de-energized line work.
  • Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains relevancy and consistency with industry best practices.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback.
  • Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning.
  • Maintain instructional areas and ensure proper operation of classroom/lab equipment, reporting any malfunctions or necessary preventative and routine maintenance promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness of instructional areas and laboratories.
  • Provide real-world demonstrations of lineworker tasks, including pole climbing, equipment use and safety procedures.
  • Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in laboratory and/or clinical settings to meet program needs.
  • Recommend textbooks and other instructional materials, including classroom and laboratory equipment to Dean or Coordinator.
  • Promote safety by teaching and modeling OSHA regulations, National Electrical Safety Code standards and other industry guidelines.
  • Support the efforts of the Lineworker program in addressing recruitment and retention of students.
  • Develop and distribute course syllabi according to established template providing appropriate information to students concerning course expectations and evaluation criteria.

  • Remain updated on guidelines and procedures for state and national certification requirements
  • Create a student-centered environment for on and off campus students
  • Work toward operational excellence; continuous improvement of processes and seek help from advisory committees
  • Implement innovative strategies to meet the needs of students and improve processes
  • Interact with co-workers and perform tasks with the highest level of integrity
  • Work cooperatively with faculty, staff, students, and our learning community
  • Promote and support HCC's mission, vision, and values and promote and support coworkers in the most positive manner.
Qualifications

Minimum

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Journeyman Lineworker
  • Knowledge of RUS specifications and proficiency in linework operations
  • CPR/AED/First Aid will be required once hired
  • Fire Extinguisher training will be required once hired

Preferred

  • Associates Degree
  • Valid Class A CDL and insurable driving record
  • 5 years of supervisory experience as a Foreman or higher.
  • Experience teaching or training in a professional or educational setting.

Licensing Requirement
- Active NC Driver's License required if position requires the operation of college vehicle as part of duties. Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Background check required.

Physical Demands
- Ability to climb utility poles and work at heights of 25 feet or greater; frequent physical activity including walking, stooping, bending, lifting up to 60lbs (occasionally more) and working in awkward positions; dexterity to operate linework tools, test equipment and instructional materials;
Frequently communicates with students, potential students, faculty, staff and general public regarding inquiries and must be able to exchange knowledgeable information in these situations;
Repetitive motion from computer and clinical equipment usage.

Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a classroom, laboratory, and outdoor settings, often in varying weather conditions. Must adhere to all safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by OSHA and the College.

Hazard Assessment
- Minimal exposure to hazards in controlled classroom environments; field training may include exposure to inclement weather and electrical hazards. Proper safety protocols and PPE are mandatory.
