Reports to:

Director for Federal Programs, CTE & Grant Administration

Supervises:
None

Term of Employment: 12 months

Required Degree Level: Bachelor's or Master's

Career and Technical Education program area teacher, in industry-related career development work experience in business, industry, or labor; or as a coordinator of work-based learning (job-shadowing, internships, cooperative education, apprenticeships); or in school counseling

Course Options:

Option 1:
Two required courses:

  • NC Works Training Center Facilitating Career Development (FCD) Course
  • NC DPI New CDC Induction

Option 3:
Six semester hours and Induction

  • 3 semester hours in Counseling theory
  • 3 semester hours from the following:
    • Career development and counseling
    • Career and life planning
    • Career development and occupational information
  • 3 semester hours from the following: NC DPI New CDC Induction

Required Credentials:
Current Continuing Professional License in a CTE program area and/or Current Continuing Professional license as School Counselor at the G level

Special Populations Licensure Requirements:

Required Degree Level: Bachelor's or Master's

    Principles of Career Counseling and Development OR Theories and Techniques of Counseling

Required Credentials:
Current Continuing Professional License in a CTE program area and/or current Continuing Professional License in Exceptional Children's Education and/or Current Continuing Professional license as School Counselor at the G level

Essential Job Functions:

  • Demonstrate leadership, advocacy, and collaboration
  • Oversee and assist with relevant record keeping and inventory systems related to job responsibilities
  • Enhance the profession and strive to improve it by staying current in research and best practices
  • Advocate for programs and students. Assist school and CTE administrators in identifying programs that need improvements to assist special population's students in meeting the performance indicators
  • Coordinate with school and CTE administrators, and other service providers to develop an annual plan of work based on the evaluation and needs assessment results to ensure that students within special populations are receiving adequate supplementary services and career planning
  • Demonstrate high ethical standards and behavior
  • Assist and help to coordinate all CTE related testing by serving as the Building Level Coordinator within their school (ex. CTE Post assessments, Workkeys, Credentials and Certifications)
  • Promote a respectful environment for a diverse population of students
  • Foster a school environment in which students have positive nurturing relationships with caring adults
  • Assist in identifying students within specific educational needs each semester, and provide information to CTE teachers and suggest possible teaching strategies to help students become career and college ready
  • Assess the characteristics of using interest inventories, learning style assessments, or similar instruments
  • With input from CTE teachers and CTE administrators, assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring the CDP+
  • Participate on the IEP Team for students enrolled in CTE courses, as needed, in the development and implementation of the TE and transition components of the IEP
  • Adapt services to accommodate diverse student populations
  • Work collaboratively with the families and significant adults in the lives of students
  • Identify students within special populations each semester, and provide information to CTE teachers and suggest possible teaching strategies
  • Oversee and assist with coordinating special services for special populations students
  • Assist with transition services for special populations students
  • Monitor school, course demographic and attainment data to assist in determining maintenance and improvement of access, progress, and success of students within special populations in CTE programs
  • Assist in assessing the attainment of performance indicators for students within special populations
  • Understand and facilitate the implementation of a comprehensive career development program
