TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an approved education program in the subject area.
  • North Carolina teaching license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when student is participating in an inclusive activity.
  • Ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
  • Ability to perform general clerical duties.
  • Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom.
  • Ability to operate common office machines.
  • Ability to maintain basic files and records.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitates by work assignments.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of technology in the classroom
  • Ability to create and follow rigorous lesson plans that correlate with the Common Core
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties are representative; reasonable accommodations may be made. The teacher follows all board policies and procedures and complies with directives from supervisors.

  • Planning the Program – Develop annual objectives and plan an instructional program that incorporates these objectives.
  • Overseeing the Program – Implement learner objectives compatible with the subject, grade level, curriculum, and student needs; assess program effectiveness.
  • Updating the Program – Maintain knowledge of subject areas and child growth and development.
  • Managing Daily Instruction – Ensure instruction, materials, and procedures are appropriate; encourage student, parent, and community involvement.
  • Differentiating Instruction – Assess student abilities and adapt techniques for different learning rates, styles, and levels.
  • Individualized Instruction – Monitor student achievement and provide remediation as required.
  • Supervising – Use classroom management techniques to maintain a suitable learning environment.
  • Human Resources – Utilize community resources, student talent, volunteers, and other personnel to enhance the program.
  • Human Relations – Respect dignity and cultural differences; maintain communication with parents.
  • Non-instructional Duties – Accept duties as assigned; comply with laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Promoting School Safety – Foster a safe, secure, and orderly environment and professional conduct.
  • Reporting Acts of Violence – Report acts of violence to the principal.
  • Reporting of Students Suspended or Expelled – Report as required by state board policies.
  • Evaluation Instrument – Meet standards in the teacher evaluation framework.

PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below apply to the Teacher job classification within Bertie County Schools.

  • Light physical work; exert up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Prepare, read and comprehend forms, reports, and documentation in required languages.
  • Understand and apply punctuation, grammar, and style.

  • Write using standard conventions in required languages.
