PurposeProvide high‑quality physical education instruction while leading a comprehensive strength and conditioning program that promotes student wellness, athletic performance, injury prevention, and lifelong fitness. Support the academic and athletic mission of the school by teaching North Carolina Physical Education standards and developing safe, effective weight training and conditioning programs for high school student‑athletes in collaboration with coaches, administrators, and other school staff.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee strength and conditioning programs for student‑athletes.
- Promote safe and effective use of weight room equipment.
- Support the academic, physical, and personal growth of students.
- Collaborate with athletic coaches to enhance overall athletic performance programs.
- Management of Instructional Time:
Prepare materials, supplies, and equipment before each lesson; start class promptly; keep students on task. - Management of Student Behavior:
Establish rules and procedures for routine administrative matters, verbal participation, classroom movement, and transitions; monitor behavior continuously; stop inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity. - Instructional Presentation:
Review prior material; introduce lesson objectives; present content clearly; provide relevant examples and demonstrations; assign tasks with high success rates; ask appropriate questions; manage transitions smoothly; summarize main points. - Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance:
Set clear standards and deadlines; circulate during class to assess performance; use oral, written, and other work products to track progress; pose questions clearly. - Instructional Feedback:
Provide feedback on correctness to encourage growth; give prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work; affirm correct responses; probe or repeat after incorrect responses. - Facilitating Instruction:
Utilize diagnostic data to develop and revise objectives; maintain accurate records; align objectives, strategies, and assessments; use available resources for the program. - Interacting Within the Educational Environment:
Treat all students fairly; interact effectively with students, coworkers, parents, and community. - Performing Non‑Instructional Duties:
Carry out non‑instructional duties as assigned; adhere to laws, policies, and regulations; pursue professional development. - Additional
Job Functions:
Perform other related work as required.
- North Carolina licensure (or eligibility for licensure) in Physical Education/Health.
- Experience coaching and supervising strength and conditioning programs for high school athletes.
- Knowledge of weight training principles, athletic performance development, and injury prevention strategies.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with coaches, administrators, and fellow educators.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Degree in education or a related field that qualifies for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Physical Requirements: Must use a variety of equipment and classroom tools; exert negligible force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects; standing and walking time consistent with Light Work.
