Job Description
An Instructor’s primary responsibility is to maintain excellence in instructing students in his/her curriculum subject with the express goal of attaining certain student learning outcomes. In addition to the primary responsibility, Instructors will be required to complete various classroom administrative duties as well as duties helpful to satisfy the goals and objectives of WCC including committee service and professional development.
This is a full-time, 12-month position housed at the Wilkes Campus, with the possibility of occasional assignments at the Wilkes and Ashe Campuses. This position may require weekend and evening hours.

Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Teach cosmetology theory and hands‑on skills in a salon‑style environment that aligns with NC State Board of Cosmetic Arts licensure requirements.
- Create a positive, professional learning environment that supports student engagement/growth, skill development, accountability, and success.
- Evaluate student performance, track progress, and maintain accurate academic and clinical records.
- Supervise and instruct students in classroom, lab, and clinic settings.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant learning environment. Ensure compliance with NC State Board of Cosmetic Arts regulations and college policies
- Advise and mentor students to support retention, completion, and career readiness.
- Model professionalism, customer service, safety, and leadership for students.
- Participate in program improvement, recruitment efforts, and professional development.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Director.
Required Qualifications
- Current North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts license,
- Current Cosmetology Instructor’s license with the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Arts
- Commitment to professional development and an understanding of and commitment to the purpose of a comprehensive community college.
- Must be a team player.
Preferred Qualifications
- Classroom teaching experience preferred.
- 2 years of experience as a licensed cosmetology instructor, preferably within a community college.
Work is primarily performed under general supervision in the classroom, laboratory, office, healthcare, and clinical environments with appropriate climate controls. Travel between campuses, healthcare facilities, and community locations may be required. Evening and weekend work may be necessary to support instructional schedules and workforce training needs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Essential functions
:
Positions require lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate effectively, ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods, and ability to move between classrooms, labs, and clinical sites. Must be able to demonstrate and assist with healthcare‑related procedures requiring fine motor skills and physical coordination.

:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting only occasionally, walking and standing are required regularly, incumbents may be required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, or handle.

Salary Grade
Salary Salary Range: $42,000 to $60,000 based on education and experience
