Minimum Training And Experience
Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree in Special Education or School Administration preferred) from an accredited college or university in teaching, behavioral sciences, or related fields. Must be certified to teach in the State of North Carolina and hold a current teaching license.
Five years of successful teaching experience (EC Teacher Preferred) and/or other relevant professional experience. Experience in a school or district leadership role preferred. Experience facilitating teams at both a school and district level.
Experience in planning and delivering professional learning for adults.
Experience with school based coaching. Knowledge of Exceptional Children and legal requirements of IDEA and NC MTSS implementation and understanding of MTSS as a framework for whole-school improvement. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position.
JCPS Compliance/MTSS Job Description
Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Compliance and Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Coordinator provides district leadership in ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations governing EC student support services and also coordination of the implementation of a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) across the district. This position provides technical assistance, support, professional development, consultation, and monitoring to administrators, teachers, and school-based leadership teams to promote equitable, data-driven academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional support for all students.
The Compliance and MTSS Coordinator works collaboratively with district and school personnel to develop and sustain effective systems that align with IDEA requirements and NCDPI as well as with North Carolina MTSS (NC MTSS), North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) guidance, the Integrated Academic and Behavior Systems (IABS) framework, and all applicable federal and state regulations. Responsibilities include monitoring program compliance, facilitating district and school problem-solving processes, analyzing student and system data, coordinating continuous improvement efforts, and ensuring fidelity of MTSS implementation.
The coordinator serves as a district resource in the areas of compliance, intervention planning, data analysis, progress monitoring, and professional learning, while fostering collaboration among departments to improve student outcomes. The position requires extensive knowledge of NC MTSS, IDEA, state and federal accountability requirements, evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices, and continuous school improvement processes. The successful candidate will possess exceptional organizational, communication, leadership, coaching, and facilitation skills, with demonstrated experience in designing and delivering high-quality professional development and supporting school improvement initiatives through collaborative leadership.
