Director, Community and Occupational Programs

Under limited supervision, the Director, Community and Occupational Programs provides leadership, oversight, coordination, and general direction for a diverse portfolio of continuing education programs and courses, including community service programs, personal enrichment courses, occupational training, short-term healthcare training, workforce development offerings, and other non-credit programs designed to meet student, employer, community, and regional workforce needs. The Director works collaboratively with the Vice President of Continuing Education/Workforce Development to identify, develop, and implement new programs and courses that strengthen the Continuing Education/Workforce Development division, expand enrollment, respond to community and employer needs, and support the College's mission.

This position reports directly to the Vice President of Continuing Education/Workforce Development and exercises direct supervision over assigned program instructional staff. The Director frequently collaborates with other program directors, division chairs, faculty, staff, and subject-matter experts when courses intersect with specialized program areas, regulatory requirements, or established areas of oversight.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Leadership, Development, and Evaluation

  • Provide leadership, oversight, coordination, and general direction for assigned community, occupational, workforce, healthcare-related, personal enrichment, and other non-credit continuing education programs and courses.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Continuing Education and Workforce Development to identify, develop, implement, and evaluate new or revised programs that support divisional growth, enrollment expansion, workforce needs, and the College's mission.
  • Research and assess student interest, employer needs, labor market trends, community demand, and regional workforce priorities to ensure program offerings remain relevant, responsive, accessible, and sustainable.
  • Monitor enrollment trends, course performance, completion data, student and instructor feedback, and program outcomes to support planning, decision-making, and continuous improvement.
  • Recommend changes to course schedules, locations, modalities, instructional resources, fee structures, and program design to improve enrollment, access, quality, and effectiveness.

Course Administration and Operations

  • Coordinate the planning, scheduling, implementation, and evaluation of assigned continuing education courses and programs.
  • Develop and maintain course schedules that consider student demand, instructor availability, facility needs, instructional resources, enrollment trends, timing, location, and modality.
  • Coordinate classroom, lab, facility, equipment, supply, textbook, and instructional material needs with appropriate College personnel.
  • Assist with course setup and maintenance in Fund Five, Colleague, and other applicable systems to support accurate course sections, faculty assignments, budgets, fees, and reporting.
  • Work closely with the Registrar's Office and other College personnel to support accurate registration, documentation, reporting, and operational workflows.
  • Coordinate with other program directors, division chairs, faculty, staff, and subject-matter experts when assigned courses intersect with specialized program areas, regulatory requirements, or established areas of oversight.

Instructor Recruitment, Supervision, and Support

  • Recruit, screen, interview, and recommend qualified part-time, adjunct, and contract instructors for assigned continuing education programs and courses in accordance with College procedures.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources and appropriate College personnel to support timely hiring, onboarding, credential review, instructional agreements, contract processing, and payroll-related documentation.
  • Provide orientation, communication, guidance, and support to assigned program instructional staff.
  • Exercise direct supervision over assigned program instructional staff, including communication of expectations, review of course delivery, and support for performance management processes in accordance with College procedures.
  • Coordinate teaching assignments and instructional schedules for assigned courses in collaboration with the Vice President and appropriate College personnel.
  • Assist instructors with course planning, instructional resources, classroom management concerns, documentation requirements, and student success strategies.
  • Monitor instructional quality through regular communication, course review, student feedback, class visits when appropriate, documentation review, and consultation with the Vice President.
  • Address instructor concerns, student concerns, course delivery issues, and performance matters in a timely and professional manner.
  • Identify and recommend professional development needs for assigned instructors.
