FLSA: Non-exempt
Reports To: Lead Teacher/Principal
Supplies: None
Terms of Employment: 10 months
Qualifications: Associate Degree or other method meeting the Teacher Assistant requirements under No Child Left Behind.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide instructional assistance and cooperate in developing classroom procedures.
- Assist in preparing materials, and maintain awareness of the supervising teacher’s goals and objectives.
- Help implement the planned program and provide information on program evaluation.
- Participate in and facilitate activities to improve the effectiveness of the school program.
- Carries out student supervisory duties promptly and responsibly to ensure a safe and healthful environment.
- Collect and record money according to established procedures.
- Maintain classroom files and records in accordance with applicable rules, laws, and regulations.
- Perform clerical duties as assigned and demonstrate technical skill in operating equipment.
- Assist students with understanding, interpreting, and adhering to laws, rules, and regulations.
- Share responsibility for school cleanliness and neatness, and assist in developing good housekeeping skills.
- Represent the needs of the school and children to parents and the community positively.
- Act as a positive role model within the school and community.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
- Must hold or be able to obtain a bus license.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements:
- Work is considered light physical work; may require exertion of up to 20 pounds occasionally and negligible force frequently or constantly to move objects.
- Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, kneel, bend, and perform repetitive motions.
- Use visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data and visually inspect small defects or parts.
- Operate a variety of machines, motor vehicles, hand, and job-specific equipment and tools.
- Determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work, observe general surroundings and activities.
- Communicate orally and in writing to express ideas and convey detailed or important instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Safely work in situations of exposure to blood‑borne pathogens, possibly requiring specialized personal protective equipment.
- Establish positive relationships with students and work effectively with children and adults with disabilities.
- Deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions and perform under stress or emergency situations.
- Talk and hear, with speaking and hearing demonstrated.
Physical Environment: The employee regularly works indoors in a school setting. Noise level is usually minimal.
