Live on Mission

Church of the Outer Banks is a Christ-centered community, shaped by the Gospel, and living on mission. We are an Anglican congregation in the Diocese of the Carolinas, gathering Sunday mornings at 9:30 in the First Flight High School auditorium on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. We are Biblical, Welcoming, Multi-Generational, Prayerful, and Missional, and we mean all five of those words.

Three convictions shape everything we do:

  • Christ Above All. Jesus is Lord over every part of our lives, our worship, our decisions, and our identity.
  • Gospel for All. The good news of Jesus Christ is for every person, with no prerequisites and no perfect record required.
  • Mission to All. We are sent to our neighbors, our community, and to the ends of the earth.
About Rooted Youth

Rooted Youth exists to encourage, empower, and equip middle and high school students to love God, love others, and live on mission. About 40 students gather each week for food, fun, fellowship, and time in the Word, including a Wednesday evening middle school gathering, a Sunday evening high school gathering, and midweek Bible studies. Our congregation averages roughly 440 on a Sunday morning, and with close to 100 kids coming up through our children’s ministry, the pipeline into youth ministry is real and it is not slowing down.

This is a ministry with momentum and room to build. The students are here. The families are engaged. The volunteers are willing. What we are looking for is the person to lead it, shepherd it, and give it the shape it will carry for the next decade.

Our whole church walks a four-movement discipleship path:
Begin With Him, Be With Him, Become Like Him, Do What He Did. You would be the one carrying middle and high school students along it.

The Role

The Youth Pastor / Youth Ministry Director is a full-time, 40 hour per week position reporting to the Executive Director. It leads a dynamic, gospel-centered ministry for middle and high school students that fosters faith, community, and growth. The role works in close collaboration with our Children’s Ministry to ensure a seamless discipleship path from childhood into youth, and it directly supervises the Youth Intern, a 10 hour per week learning and support position.

Community

Building and Student Engagement
  • Plan and lead weekly youth gatherings with fellowship, worship, and engaging Bible teaching.
  • Organize retreats, service projects, camps, and mission trips that deepen relationships and inspire spiritual growth.
  • Build personal relationships with students through presence, mentoring, and listening as they navigate life and faith. This includes showing up at school events and in the places students already are.
  • Welcome and integrate new students and families into the youth community.
Discipleship Oversight
  • Develop and oversee age-appropriate, gospel-centered curriculum for small groups and teaching series.
  • Lead deeper discipleship opportunities such as gender-specific groups and student leadership teams.
  • Encourage students to serve in the church and community, developing them as young leaders.
  • Coordinate with Children’s Ministry for a smooth transition of 5th graders into the youth program.
  • Align youth discipleship with the church’s disciple-making pathway:
Begin With Him, Be With Him, Become Like Him, Do What He Did.
Volunteer Team and Ministry Systems
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of volunteer youth leaders drawn from parents and young adults.
  • Supervise and mentor the Youth Intern, setting clear expectations, giving regular feedback, and shaping the internship as a genuine development opportunity.
  • Create standard procedures and playbooks for recurring tasks so the ministry runs consistently and volunteers are empowered.
  • Build a leadership development pipeline for volunteers and student leaders so responsibilities are shared and continuity is maintained.
  • Use Planning Center to schedule volunteers, track attendance and engagement, and keep student and volunteer records current
Operations and Administration
  • Communicate regularly with parents and the congregation through announcements, email, and social media.
  • Handle logistics for youth activities including calendars,…
