The purpose of this position is to teach content focused on improving basic skills in core science areas through individual, small group, and whole class instruction, providing targeted remediation and enrichment as needed. Responsible for delivering direct science instruction to offenders aged 18 to 22 to support their attainment of a high school equivalency diploma.
Responsibilities- Design lessons and instructional materials based on best practices in science instruction with clear learning targets and measurable goals aligned with state standards, suitable for students with a wide range of maturity and academic levels.
- Provide effective direct group and individual instruction in pertinent science content, motivating active participation, achieving academic goals, and helping students transition within the academic school, the prison system, and back into society.
- Develop, implement, and communicate standards of student conduct and a classroom management plan supporting the school-wide behavior plan.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers and other school personnel regarding students and best instructional practices.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the principal.
- Bachelor’s degree in the teaching area associated with this position or an appropriate accredited college degree.
- Current (non‑expired) State of North Carolina Professional Educator’s License (Class Code A, M, S, or
D) with certification in the area of science at the middle or high school level, or eligibility to obtain an Emergency or Residency teaching license. - At least one year of relevant teaching experience preferred.
- Certification in multiple subjects (e.g., math and science) preferred.
- Experience preparing lessons aligned to College and Career Readiness Standards and NC Standard Course of Study.
- Experience using diverse instructional methods, maintaining accurate records, using technology-based productivity applications, and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
Salary Range: $49,200 to $84,948
