SalarySalary range $49,200 to $84,948, based on NCDPI Salary Schedule.
Description of WorkThe Science Teacher will deliver direct science instruction to offenders aged 18 to 22 in a medium‑custody male correctional facility, supporting students toward a high school equivalency diploma. The teacher will organize and deliver curriculum, provide individualized and group instruction, and collaborate with the academic team to monitor student progress.
Responsibilities- Design lessons and instructional materials aligned with state standards and suitable for students at diverse academic levels.
- Provide effective direct group and individual instruction in pertinent science content, motivating active participation and achieving academic goals.
- Develop, implement, and communicate classroom conduct standards and a classroom management plan consistent with the school‑wide behavior plan.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers and school personnel regarding student progress and instructional best practices.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the principal.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a discipline related to science education.
- Current (non‑expired) State of North Carolina Professional Educator’s License (Class Code A, M, S, or
D) with science certification at the middle or high school level, or eligibility to obtain an Emergency or Residency teaching license. - At least one year of directly related teaching experience in a school setting.
- Certification in multiple subject areas (e.g., math and science).
- Experience preparing lessons aligned to College and Career Readiness Standards and informed by the NC Standard Course of Study.
- Experience using diverse instructional methods and student assessment data to inform instruction.
- Proficiency in technology‑based productivity applications and student information systems.
- Experience managing accurate instructional records, including attendance, grades, and assessment results.
