Plumbing Instructor (Brown Creek Correctional Institution)
The Plumbing Instructor is a full-time, 12-month position located at Brown Creek Correctional Institution in Polkton, NC. Under the direction of the Correctional Education Director, the Plumbing Instructor provides quality educational opportunities to assist immured students in developing the skills necessary to secure employment in the field of Plumbing upon release. Essential Duties
Summary:
- Develop learning strategies and curriculum that align to industry credentials and support post-release employment.
- Facilitate learning through classroom activities, distance learning experiences, workforce development, and meaningful out-of-class assignments, as appropriate.
- Remain current with developments in the field of plumbing.
- Select and use appropriate learning materials and resources including textbooks, library resources, equipment, and supplies to enhance learning and to maintain program currency.
- Organize and maintain class area including physical facilities, equipment, supplies, and technology.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, student registration information, and other required paperwork.
- Adhere to correctional institution policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in professional development and training, as appropriate.
- Participate in short and long-term program planning.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Correctional Education, AVP Career and Workforce Development, and Vice President of Career and Workforce Development.
- In the event correctional facilities are closed to external partners, correctional instructional staff may be reassigned to teach at any of SPCC's campuses or off-site locations. Additional reassignments may also include curriculum or program development and/or participation in professional development and training opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field of plumbing
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Working knowledge of current code related to the field of plumbing
- Proven ability to deal effectively, cooperatively, and tactfully with students, faculty, staff, administrators
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current Plumbing license
- Associate degree in related field
- Managerial or foreman experience in the field of plumbing
- Experience with multimedia instructional techniques
- Evidence of effective problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
- Evidence of a career that includes a strong work ethic with a proven track record of project completion, multi-tasking, and the ability to handle high-pressure environments
- Evidence of a willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth
